Husband and I have many things in common. One of those things is our love of road-tripping. Sometimes, we have a planned destination. Other times we just jump in the car and see where the roads take us. Once, on the spur of the moment, we hopped in the car and decided to ‘pop down’ to the Great Ocean Road. That was a 13+ hour drive. Today though, we had a sentimental favourite in mind – Beechworth Bakery.
The Beechworth Bakey in the Yarra Valley was one of the first places we discovered after moving to Melbourne from Queensland. Always a fan of a tasty pastry and good cuppa, it didn’t take much for us to find our way to what is claimed to be Australia’s Best Bakery.
There is an abundance of indoor seating and the fire is always roaring in the cooler months. For us though, we always choose to sit outside. The outdoor space is what you might imagine of a friendly, oversized backyard. There’s a generous lawn with a few tables scattered around. A creek babbles gently in the background. All in all, a perfect setting to enjoy whilst savouring delights from the bakery.
Beechworth Bakery Gardens
We love that Fella and Tidda are welcome at the bakery gardens. If you’re heading there with your doggos in Winter, be sure to pack a mat or blanket for them to sit on as the ground is quite cold and can be damp.
Queen Victoria Park is located directly adjacent the bakery and it’s worthwhile a wandering over there. The gardens have plenty of nooks and crannies to explore, pathways for pedestrians and cyclists, playgrounds for the kiddies and trees that will make you want to hug them. I can imagine many memories being made in these gardens.
Beechworth is a beautiful town, filled with many attractions. The gorgeous tree-lined streets are a sight to enjoy, regardless of the season. For me, having lived most of my life in the tropics a favourite season will always be Winter and the Beechworth Bakery will always remain a sentimental favourite destination.
